Rajmudra Architects was engaged to design a dedicated outdoor play area for the pre-primary section of SPM School, located in Sadashiv Peth, Pune. Spread across approximately 0.50 acres, the project was envisioned as a safe, engaging, and educational environment that encourages physical activity, social interaction, and experiential learning among young children.
The design focused on creating a vibrant and child-friendly play space where recreation and learning seamlessly come together. Every element was carefully planned to support the developmental needs of pre-primary students while ensuring safety, accessibility, and visual appeal throughout the play environment.
Design Approach
- Developing a colorful and interactive play environment specifically tailored to the requirements of pre-primary school children
- Designing play turf areas with customized markings and activity zones that support organized play, movement, and outdoor learning activities
- Creating dedicated beach sand play areas that encourage sensory development, creativity, and hands-on exploration
- Incorporating educational play elements such as life-sized Snake and Ladder games painted directly on the ground, allowing children to participate physically while learning through play
- Providing open play spaces that encourage group activities, social interaction, and active recreation in a safe environment
- Utilizing bright colors, playful patterns, and child-friendly graphics to create an engaging and stimulating outdoor atmosphere
- Ensuring safe circulation and clear spatial organization to support easy supervision and comfortable movement throughout the play area
- Creating a balanced mix of structured and unstructured play opportunities that contribute to the physical, cognitive, and social development of children
Special emphasis was placed on designing an outdoor environment that extends the learning experience beyond the classroom. Through the integration of recreational, educational, and sensory play elements, the play area promotes creativity, imagination, teamwork, and physical development while maintaining a strong focus on safety and enjoyment.
The completed play area transforms the available open space into a vibrant educational landscape that supports holistic child development.
