Project Overview
Project Summary
Client
Civil Court Metro Station, Shivajinagar, Pune (In Association with DBG & Associates)
Rajmudra Architects, in association with DBG & Associates, was involved in the landscape design for the Civil Court Metro Station precinct at Shivajinagar, Pune. Spread across approximately 10 acres, the project aimed to create an attractive, functional, and pedestrian-friendly public realm that complements one of Pune’s most significant urban transportation hubs.
The landscape design focused on enhancing the station’s frontage and surrounding open spaces through thoughtfully planned green areas, pedestrian circulation networks, seating zones, and aesthetic landscape features. The objective was to provide commuters and visitors with a welcoming environment that balances urban functionality with visual appeal and user comfort.
Design Approach
- Developing expansive front lawn areas that create a visually appealing foreground and enhance the overall identity of the metro station precinct
- Designing a fountain feature as a focal landscape element that contributes to the character and vibrancy of the public space
- Creating comfortable seating areas integrated within the landscaped lawns, allowing commuters and visitors to relax and interact within a green environment
- Planning a network of pedestrian pathways that ensure smooth movement between station entrances, open spaces, and surrounding urban infrastructure
- Incorporating avenue plantation and strategically positioned trees along pathways to provide shade, improve microclimatic conditions, and enhance the pedestrian experience
- Establishing a balanced relationship between hardscape and softscape elements to create an organized and visually coherent public realm
- Enhancing the arrival and transit experience through landscape features that improve both functionality and aesthetics within a high-traffic urban environment
Special emphasis was placed on creating an accessible and people-oriented landscape that supports daily commuter movement while offering pleasant outdoor spaces for relaxation and social interaction. The integration of lawns, trees, pathways, seating areas, and water features contributes to a more welcoming and environmentally responsive transportation precinct.
The completed landscape design enhances the overall character of the Civil Court Metro Station by introducing green infrastructure and thoughtfully designed public spaces into a major urban transit environment. The project demonstrates how landscape architecture can improve the quality, usability, and visual appeal of transportation infrastructure while enriching the everyday experience of thousands of commuters and visitors.
